Today we left the Norwegian interior behind and headed southwest towards Lysebotn. The route had everything a motorcyclist could ask for: mountain plateaus, countless hairpin bends, endless twisty roads, and perfectly smooth asphalt.
On top of that, today’s scenery was by far the most spectacular of the entire trip. Around almost every corner, another breathtaking view was waiting for us. We honestly felt like stopping every five minutes just to take another photo. These are exactly the kinds of roads and landscapes we came to Norway for.
At around 2:00 p.m., we arrived at the ferry terminal. Naturally, we tried to book the 3:55 p.m. ferry, only to discover that it was already fully booked. The next available departure wasn’t until 6:00 p.m.
A friendly Norwegian riding a quad bike gave us some advice: park right at the front of the ramp and ask the ferry manager as soon as she steps off the boat.
So that’s exactly what we did.
By then, a long line of vehicles had formed while we waited off to the side with our motorcycles. As soon as the ferry docked, Matthias politely approached the manager.
“We don’t have tickets. Is there any chance we could still get on?”
Without hesitation, she replied:
“Yes.”
Matthias then asked, “So we’ll board last?”
She smiled and answered:
“No. You’ll be first.”
We couldn’t believe it. Without tickets, we suddenly found ourselves riding onto the ferry before everyone else. Sometimes, all you have to do is ask politely.
After crossing to Songesand, it was only a short ride to Wathne Camping, where we rented a larger cabin for two nights. After spending so many nights in small cabins, this one almost feels luxurious.
The reason we’re staying here is simple: tomorrow brings the final major highlight of our journey. Early in the morning, we’ll set off to hike to the famous Preikestolen.
And the best part of the day? For once, nothing broke. No snapped cables, no flat tires, and no unexpected roadside repairs. Hopefully, it stays that way all the way home.
Today was the best riding day of our entire trip. At the End 319 km to day.
