Today was finally the day. At 6:21 a.m., we left Spöck and started the first stage of our great Scandinavian adventure.
As planned, we stopped roughly once every hour to eat, drink, and stretch our legs. With the temperatures forecast for the day, regular breaks were definitely a good idea.
After passing Kassel, we encountered about an hour of rain. Normally, rain is not something you look forward to on a motorcycle trip, but this time the cooling effect was more than welcome. We had expected to spend the entire day being roasted in temperatures approaching 37°C (99°F). Instead, we enjoyed a welcome mix of cooler weather and intense summer heat.
Things became a bit more challenging near Hamburg. Part of the A1 motorway was closed, forcing us to leave the highway and make our way through the city. That meant traffic jams, stop-and-go riding, and plenty of heat radiating from the surrounding vehicles. Not exactly the highlight of the day, but unexpected situations like these are simply part of any longer journey.
After nearly twelve hours on the road, we finally reached our destination for the night. We found a comfortable apartment in the small village of Zarpen, not far from Lübeck.
The motorcycles are parked safely, the luggage is unpacked, and the first stage of the trip is complete.
Tomorrow we continue to Puttgarden, where we will board the ferry to Denmark before continuing our journey towards Sweden.
The north is getting closer. 🏍️🇩🇰🇸🇪
