Today we continued our journey south, following the Norwegian coastline towards Kristiansand. Once again, we were rewarded with fantastic roads. Sometimes right along the sea, sometimes winding through dense forests—exactly the kind of riding that makes Norway so special.
During a break at a small beach, we discovered the remains of an old shipwreck. We were able to reach the first piece of the wreck easily by walking across dry rocks. Farther out in the water, however, we spotted what looked like part of the engine. Of course, we wanted to get a closer look.
Everything went well—until the very last rock.
It was wet and covered with algae. In the blink of an eye, my feet disappeared beneath me, and I performed a completely unplanned backward flip straight into the salt water.
So yes… I ended up taking an unexpected swim in the North Sea. They say salt water is good for you! Apart from a sore back, a bruised backside, and being completely soaked, nothing serious happened. We’ll see tomorrow whether my body has any additional opinions about it.
Later in the day, we passed Helleren once again, a place we had already visited back in 2018. Several 200-year-old houses are built beneath a huge rock overhang, making it one of the most unusual places we’ve ever seen.
Tonight we’re staying at Adventure Norway AS, a rafting campsite. It has been the simplest accommodation of our entire trip—but that’s exactly what makes it special. I even took my shower under the open sky, and it was surprisingly enjoyable.
Of course, there was a little motorcycle maintenance as well. My Moto Guzzi decided to lose its tail light, but that was quickly fixed with nothing more than a screwdriver. Matthias’ Moto Guzzi asked for a little engine oil, so we’ll top it up later with about 150 milliliters.
To finish the day, we booked the Fjord Line high-speed ferry. Tomorrow at 1:00 p.m., it will take us from Kristiansand to Hirtshals in Denmark. Our campsite is only about an hour from the ferry terminal, so tomorrow morning will be a relaxed start.
See you tomorrow in Denmark!
