BMW R nineT Scrambler

The 2017 BMW R nineT Scrambler accompanied me through the Carpathians in 2025 and performed exceptionally well throughout the trip. Despite being more of a classic roadster than a touring motorcycle, it handled the journey surprisingly well.

One of the biggest highlights were the Scorpion Rally STR tires. Considering how aggressive they look, they perform absolutely brilliantly on the road. With those tires, it felt like you could ride almost anything — from twisty mountain roads to rough secondary routes.

One of the most practical things about this motorcycle is that it always has power available, no matter the situation. Whether cruising, overtaking or riding through twisty mountain roads, the boxer engine always delivers strong and confident performance.

One important lesson from the trip: finding 15W50 engine oil in Romania is surprisingly difficult, at least at regular gas stations or smaller workshops.

The Hepco & Becker C-BOW luggage system, however, was definitely too small. In the end, it somehow worked out, but 16 pairs of underwear, T-shirts and socks are simply part of the basic travel equipment — and that takes up more space than half a pannier.
