Today’s ride took us northward, through narrow canyons, rugged landscapes, and wonderfully varied roads. The weather was once again on our side – sunny and dry – but noticeably cooler. You can feel we’ve come far inland.
Along the way, my BMW needed a little attention: the oil level was a bit low. Since yesterday, we’d been stopping at gas stations in search of 15W50 oil, which is what I usually run. No luck – not even in a specialized MOTUL oil shop.
So I made a small compromise and topped up with fully synthetic 10W50. Since it was only about 150 ml, it’s totally fine. The bike’s running smoothly, and we rolled on without issue.
The further north we got, the more horse-drawn carriages we saw. Every few kilometers, another wagon appeared – sometimes for tourists, but often just everyday rural transport. It gives the region a peaceful, timeless charm.
Tonight we’re staying in Volovăț, just 10 km from the Ukrainian border, at the cozy Pension Rustik – a quiet place in a rural setting.
With that, we’ve reached the northernmost point of our Romania trip. Tomorrow we begin our journey westward – with more roads and more discoveries ahead!
