Our first stop today was Bran Castle, featured in some of the most iconic Dracula films. Of course, we already knew that Vlad the Impaler never actually lived there – but it was still worth a visit.
We parked the bikes in a guarded lot and walked up to the castle. Before reaching it, we passed through a lively market full of Dracula-themed souvenirs – plastic fangs, fake blood, vampire gear everywhere. Totally touristy, but also amusing.
The castle itself was fascinating. Narrow passages, steep stairs, and lots of little rooms gave it a special atmosphere. The highlight (or lowlight?) was the torture chamber at the end – quite eerie.
After the tour, it was back on the road – and, as is typical in Romania, we encountered endless curves once again. Fun to ride, but demanding. Some sections were unpaved, though we’re used to that by now.
We also passed a few more abandoned trains and tracks. Looks like the region once had a wide rail network that has since faded into history.
By evening, we reached Cârța and checked into the Hotel Pensiunea Farkas – a cozy spot and just what we needed after a full day.
Tomorrow, the journey continues – Romania keeps us curious!
