Hungary Rattles, Austria Rolls

Today we continued our ride – leaving Hungary behind and entering Austria, heading into the beautiful Styria region. But before that, we had to deal with Hungary’s rough roads one last time.

Along the way, we witnessed a field on fire in Hungary. Luckily, the fire brigade arrived quickly and brought it under control before things got out of hand.

A quick comparison of road conditions in Hungary vs. Romania:

  • In Romania, there are many deep potholes – sometimes up to 20 cm. Dangerous, yes – but usually visible in time to avoid (though in curves it can be sketchy).
  • In Hungary, on the other hand, the roads aren’t full of holes – they’re just consistently bumpy. Not dangerous per se, but you’re getting shaken the whole way. Hard to say what’s worse.

Once we crossed into Styria, it was a completely different story: endless winding roads with perfect pavement. Smooth, flowing, and grippy – pure joy on two wheels.

Tonight we’re staying in an apartment in Trofaiach, just north of Graz – a peaceful spot to rest.

Tomorrow, we begin the final leg home. Hard to believe the journey is nearing its end.

We drove the following route today:

Total distance: 391.86 km
Total time: 07:42:19
